Boiling water tap not working? Common faults and what to check first
Not hot, low flow, leaking or noisy: what usually causes it, the safe checks you can do, and when to call us.

Most faults fall into a few groups. Some have a simple cause you can check safely. Anything involving the tank, the electrics or a leak is a job for us.
No hot water, or not hot enough
Check the tank is switched on at the socket and that nothing has tripped. If it is on and the water still is not hot, the heating side needs looking at. Do not open the tank.
Low flow or weak pressure
Often a filter that is overdue, or a build-up of limescale. If the filter light is showing, change the filter first. If that does not help, it may be a blockage or a part inside the tap.
Leaking
Turn off the water at the isolating valve under the sink if you can, switch the tank off, and call us. Small drips get worse and can damage the cupboard.
Strange noises or the tap stops and starts
Some sound while heating is normal. New or louder noises, or a tap that works on and off, usually mean something inside needs attention.
Odd taste or smell
Usually the filter is overdue. Change it, run the water for a short while, and see if it clears.
